<![CDATA[⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: FULL SPOILERS

A close-up portrait of a woman with a serious expression, looking slightly to the right. Her face is illuminated with green and yellow tones, creating a dramatic and intense mood. Overlaid on her head is a spiral staircase that narrows toward the center, where a small figure of a person stands in front of a large domed building resembling the U.S. Capitol. The spiral staircase creates a visual effect of depth and introspection, symbolizing complex thoughts or a journey inward. Below the portrait, the word "SILO" is displayed in large, bold, pale green letters. The background is a gradient of dark green shades, complementing the overall mysterious and contemplative atmosphere of the image.

smallIn "Silo" (2023), a gripping psychological thriller, a woman unravels deep secrets within a mysterious government facility, spiraling into a maze of power and truth./small

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5 stars)

Episodes: 10 | Aired:** 07-02-2026

The whole season was fantastic. I was worried about the series after Season 2. Season 2 was necessary, but it was a little slow. Again, Season 3 was fantastic.

There are full spoilers below, so if you don't want to know more, please stop reading.

You were forewarned.

I don't understand why they keep killing people who leave the Silo, unless there is a purpose we don't know about yet. That will likely be revealed later on.

I can tell Julia and Troy are related, and Troy will realize it. That will change the whole dynamic.I am glad Troy's wife, Helen, is dead, as she would not approve. Julia is always questioning, just like Helen. Troy didn't recognize his sister and I want to know where the founder has gone. Also, you would think Colin Hanks (the actor that plays the money and founder) would be the Director, not the Senator.

Anyway, it was a great season. Apple TV has a hit with this series.

div style="text-align: center; padding: 10px; margin: 20px 0 0; border-top: 1px solid #ddd; font-size: 0.85em; color: #666;"div style="margin-bottom: 8px;"img src="https://www.themoviedb.org/assets/2/v4/logos/v2/blueshort-8e7b30f73a4020692ccca9c88bafe5dcb6f8a62a4c6bc55cd9ba82bb2cd95f6c.svg" alt="TMDb" style="height: 16px; display: inline-block;"/divdivThis product uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by a href="https://www.themoviedb.org" target="blank" style="color: #01b4e4; text-decoration: none;"TMDb/a./div/div

#review #streaming #tv

p style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 0.95em; font-family: Georgia, serif; color: #0c5c35; line-height: 1.8;"
 span class="tinylytics_kudos"/span
 💬 a href="https://remark.as/p/michaelmitchell.blog/watched-silo-2023-on-apple-tv"Discuss.../a
 a href="mailto:michaelm2@michaelmitchell.blog" style="color:#0c5c35;text-decoration:none"✉️ Email/a
 🦣 a href="https://writing.exchange/@michaelm2" rel="me" style="color: #0c5c35; text-decoration: none;"Reply on Mastodon/a
/p
!--emailsub--]]>

Star Trek at 60

A monitor displays a colorful Star Trek 60th Anniversary interface.

smallCelebrating 60 years of Star Trek with a nostalgic view of the USS Enterprise model, an open book, and a themed drink, blending classic sci-fi adventure with modern fandom./small

Star Trek aired three years before I was born, yet it has had a significant influence on my life. The only thing more profound and more influential has been my faith and salvation in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

To me, Star Trek has long served as an earthly role model. It is more than a story or a television show. It is an aspiration for how a fallen world might come together and work for the common good. The ethos of Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets represents an ideal that a world or species might pursue on its own, if there were no grand Savior.
!--more--

By that ethos, I mean the hopeful idea that people from many worlds, cultures, and backgrounds can serve together for something greater than themselves. It is built on exploration, peace, sacrifice, reason, mercy, discovery, and cooperation. It is the belief that humanity can rise above its worst instincts and become better than it is now.

I want to mark 60 years of storytelling, especially those deep episodes that ran in reruns every week when I was a kid and a teenager. What prompted this reflection, of all things, was a gift from my sister. For my birthday in April, she gave me a special Parade release dedicated to Star Trek’s 60th anniversary (see image below).
Cover of Parade Collector's Edition magazine celebrating the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. The title "THE BEST OF STAR TREK" is prominently displayed in large, bold, gold letters across the top center. Below the title, two main characters from the original Star Trek series are featured: Captain James T. Kirk on the left wearing a yellow Starfleet uniform and holding a phaser, and Spock on the right in a blue Starfleet uniform, also holding a phaser. Both characters have serious expressions and are positioned against a red and orange background with a honeycomb pattern. Above the title are small headshots of six Star Trek characters from various series, including Leonard Nimoy as Spock and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard. On the right side near the title is the text "60th ANNIVERSARY" in white. At the bottom, a black banner with white text reads, "The Heroes, The Villains & Strange New Worlds That Made Star Trek A Science Fiction Legend." A barcode and pricing information are visible

smallCelebrating 60 years of Star Trek, this Parade Collector's Edition honors the iconic heroes, villains, and strange new worlds that transformed science fiction forever./small

The franchise that started on September 8, 1966, inspired many real-life ideas during the 1960s and 1970s space race, and it continues to spark imagination today. I have not always agreed with the direction the franchise has taken, but with few exceptions, the United Federation of Planets and the Star Trek ethos remain largely unchanged.

Star Trek has shaped part of how I see the world, alongside my faith, and that combination still matters to me. I want to see AI grow into something like the Star Trek computer, and I look forward to seeing more of its science fiction technology come to life in ways that help humanity.

So today, on Star Trek Day, let’s boldly go where no one has gone before and celebrate the series and its ideals.

#StarTrek #personal #tv

p style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 0.95em; font-family: Georgia, serif; color: #0c5c35; line-height: 1.8;"
 span class="tinylyticskudos"/span
 💬 a href="https://remark.as/p/michaelmitchell.blog/star-trek-at-60"Discuss.../a
 a href="mailto:michaelm2@michaelmitchell.blog" style="color:#0c5c35;text-decoration:none"✉️ Email/a
 🦣 a href="https://writing.exchange/@michaelm2" rel="me" style="color: #0c5c35; text-decoration: none;"Reply on Mastodon/a
/p
!--emailsub--]]>

TV Isn't What It Used to Be

<![CDATA[Netflix Reportedly Delays The Witcher Season 5 to 2027

Read on ign.com · View original Mastodon post

I don't watch this series, though it has interested me. Still, its general theme fits what I want to talk about here.

People wonder why TV viewing and TV series are dying. Well, when you have to wait a couple of years for 8 to 10 episodes, maybe 12 if you are really lucky, that is ridiculous. From an outsider's point of view, something is clearly wrong with the TV industry.

I have said this a hundred times, and I will keep saying it: when I was growing up, TV had an actual season. You knew roughly when it would start and end, within plus or minus a week or two. There were holiday specials, and every "TV season" usually had anywhere from 18 to 30 episodes. Of course, there were exceptions, like first seasons with fewer episodes to test interest and ratings.

Now, there is no set schedule. You get 8 to 10 episodes every couple of years, and by the time a new season finally comes out, you have already lost interest. You have forgotten what happened, stopped caring, and moved on.

Then, on top of everything else, they do not even drop all the episodes at once. Come on! That is frustrating.

So I would rather wait until every episode is available, even if I have to wait a couple of years before watching something new.

There were holiday specials, and every “TV season” usually had anywhere from 18 to 30 episodes.

In the meantime, I have been watching more old TV shows. I barely get invested in new ones anymore because of these shenanigans.

My typical concerns with streaming series persist here: the six-episode format felt too brief, resembling a mini-series more than a traditional season. Moreover, the wait for the next installment could be lengthy, based on previous patterns.
